Types of Chicken Feed

Starter Feed

This type of feed is composed of various grain bits. It is high in protein and filled with essential nutrients needed by newly hatched chicks.

Grower Feed

Think of it as a sort of an intermediate or transitional food to help in the growth and development process. Available in crumbles and pellets.

Flock Feed

This is an all-around feed that is suitable for all ages. Adolescents, hens, and roosters can fill their tummies with this food. A downside of this feed is it can’t provide the required nutritional value for certain age groups, especially laying hens.

Grit

This is fed to chickens on an occasional basis. Grit helps in the digestion of food.

Scratch

This feed is provided to meet the chickens’ compelling need to scratch the ground. It is composed of whole grains like barley, corn, and oats.

Broiler Feed

A protein-rich feed that has one sole purpose: accelerated growth. This is primarily fed for commercially grown chickens.

Egg-Layer Feed

The composition of nutrients in this feed is to aid in the egg development of the laying hens. High in calcium.

Pizza

Never deny a chicken (or a human) a good slice of pizza.
